The story of 卓越团
The Buddha spent his First Vassa at Isipatana Migadāya. At the end of the Rains Retreat (Vassa)
Buddha decided to leave Isipatana and start wandering, Taking his alms- bowl, the Buddha set out to 乌鲁韦拉 Forest.
as there was not COVID-19 pandemic situation at that time.
Buddha having gone down from the road,
approached a certain forest (by the name of Kappāsika)
and entered the forest and seated at the foot of a certain tree.
At that time, the thirty princely brothers by the name of 卓越团 together with wives, also indulge in sensualities at this (Kappāsika) forest.
They went there for indulging in sensualities, accompanied by their respective spouses.
One of the princes had no wife;
for his benefit a prostitute had been brought.
When those princes were carelessly enjoying themselves (with drinks, etc.), the prostitute took belonging and ran away.
Then the princes doing him a favor, searching for that prostitute and going around the forest, and saw the Buddha sitting under the certain tree.
Having seen and approached to the Buddha and ask him:
bhante, has 世尊 seen a woman?
“princes, what happen to you with this woman?”
bhante, now we the thirty princely brothers by the name of bhaddavaggiya together with wives indulged in sensualities at this (Kappāsika) forest.
One of the princes had no wife;
for his benefit a prostitute had been brought.
When we were carelessly enjoying ourselves (with drinks, etc.), the prostitute took belonging and ran away.
Then we doing him a favor, searching for that prostitute and going around this forest.
The Buddha asked: “Princes! What, in your opinion, is better for you, seeking a woman or seeking your own self?”
They replied: “bhante! It is better for us that we seek ourselves.”
“kumaras, if so please sit down, I will preach 法 to you.” said the Buddha.
“Yes, bhante” replied the 卓越团 princes and sat down in the suitable place after paying homage to the Buddha.
The Buddha preached the 法 step by step to them, such as——
- 施论, 戒论, 天界论
- talk on giving, talk on virtue, talk on the heavens;
- he explained the danger, degradation, and defilement in sensual pleasures and the blessing of renunciation.
when Buddha knew their mind became:
- kalla 柔软的 vinīvaraṇa repture faithful
- ready, receptive, free from hindrances, elated, and confident.
he expounded to him the teaching special to the Buddhas: suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path.
Just as a clean cloth rid of stains would properly absorb dye, in that very seat the stainless, immaculate 法眼 arose,
- “Everything that has a beginning has an end.”
- “Whatever is subject to arising is all subject to cessation.”
including COVID-19
They, having
- seen the 法/现在生
- attained the 法/pattadhamma
- understood the 法/viditadhamma
- penetrated the 法/pariyogāḷhadhamma
- crossed over uncertainty/tiṇṇavicikiccha
- being without doubts/vigatakathaṃkatha
- having attained full confidence/vesārajjappatta
- having become independent of other person in the buddhasāsana/aparappaccaya satthusāsane
said this to the Buddha:
“May we receive the going-forth, venerable Sir, in the presence of the buddha, may we receive the 达上.”
“Come, 比库s,” said the buddha,
“the 法 has been well-proclaimed, you practice 梵行 in order to complete ending of suffering.”
That (speech above) was those venerable ones’ 达上.
The story of 卓越团 brothers accomplished.
